Plaza and Marlowe Road redevelopment meeting: Report back

Did you miss the meeting on 7 February to discuss the planned redevelopment of the Marlowe Road estate and the Wood Street Plaza? In this post, Wood Street First chairman Graham Hodgkiss shares his thoughts. Google street view of Wood Street Plaza

It was good to see lots of people attending the public consultation on the new Marlowe Road and Plaza development plans. The presentation was very informative and the models showing what the area will look like in six years time when the development is finished helped to give visitors a good visual insight to the ideas and plans that have been put forward. Those at the meeting were told the present flats and the plaza will be replaced with high quality new homes and businesses. The plans also show tree lined streets and an integrated neighbourhood with a new plaza and park. There was enthusiasm for more information – the meeting over ran to allow the development team time to answer all the questions, queries and complaints. Based on the meeting exit questionnaire that we carried out, it seems that most people like the proposed development plans. However, there are still some concerns and questions that need to be answered. Wood Street First plans to continue to engage constructively with the development team and to do what it can to gather and pass on local views and concerns.

If you went to this meeting or if you would like to have your say about the proposed development we would love to hear your comments, thoughts, concerns or questions. Do let us know, either in a comment or by contacting us.

If you have any questions or concerns you wish to raise with the development team, email Jacqueline Franklin: Jacqueline.Franklin@walthamforest.gov.uk.

The development team has organised three consultation drop in sessions specifically for the businesses in Wood Street. It will be at the project shop (the old community centre/police station), 168 Marlowe Road, on Wednesday 11 March 2015, from 11-12 noon, 2-3pm and 4-5pm. More details from Jacqueline Franklin (email address as above).
